Coral reefs are not only threatened by global ocean warming, but oftentimes also by local eutrophication. Here we present a collaborative experimental research project investigating the effects of combined nitrate eutrophication and warming on a pulsating soft coral species. Findings provide intriguing indications that local sustainability efforts may become the key for this particular soft coral to survive ocean warming.
