About

Hello, I'm Lisa!

I'm a marine biologist (M.Sc.) and science videographer. My big passion is combining the marine science world through videos.

I grew up in Abu Dhabi, with roots in both Germany and the Philippines. I always wanted to be close to the ocean, even while living in the middle of the desert.

So eventually I began scuba diving and became a diving instructor to teach diving in tropical reefs (and later in Germany too). Through this I witnessed more and more the impacts of environmental degradation on the marine world and people living there, which shaped both my scientific interests and creativity. Making videos became one of my biggest passions and over time I realized I wanted to bring these two worlds together.

So I studied Marine Biology (M. Sc.) at the University of Bremen in Germany. I noticed that lot of important research never reaches people outside academia. I realised the value of bringing these messages beyond papers and journals. I worked as a videographer student at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in Bremen, where I produced various video project for their outreach department. Later while in Panama working on my master thesis, I continued to do this type of video work capturing stories behind Panamanian research.

That’s what motivates me now, making science more accessible through stories faced by people behind the research. My style is documentary and observational. I really love capturing fieldwork, interviewing scientists and people from all around the world and following research as it happens.

What I aspire to do with science communication is bringing research beyond the scientific bubble to make it accessible to more people.

Thanks for reading all this!

As a little bonus, here's a secret link to some of my earliest (and most embarrassing) video projects:
