Mathematical Modelling School - Cali 2026
What is learning? Is learning memorising that last thing we googled or that concept we caught in our tablet as the teacher explained it in class? Or is learning getting off the fast lane and taking the time to disconnect from phones, notebooks, computers, and listening… asking once and once again, until truly understanding something? In a world where answers appear, dry and dispassionate, by tapping on screens and where social media distract us from experiencing the fascination of understanding how the world works, how can we stand a chance of capturing the curiosity of students, igniting their passion, and engaging them in meaningful ways
With Ago Merico we experienced that to learn is to be transformed. We entered a classroom in the middle of a forest and, after a week, we left different from whom we were when we arrived. Watch us overcoming our fear of maths. Watch us experiencing mathematical modelling as a powerful tool to understand the wonderful complexity of life on Earth, to address global challenges, and to glimpse into increasingly uncertain futures, while truly connecting with one another and with nature.
Thanks to the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (#BMFTR) for making this possible through COLDEMAR in April 2026 at La Maima (Cali, Colombia). For us, a key milestone in establishing the alliance between Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) GmbH and #INCIMAR in Universidad del Valle.
